FNWTR Report
It was back to business as usual for week 12 of FNWTR with yet another night of awesome action. A large number of our junior riders are in Canberra for this weekends Australian titles hence, numbers were a little bit lighter than usual.
The night started as per normal with the junior development demonstration. Only this week was one of our extra special derny events. In these demonstrations I pair a junior rider with one of our top Div 1 riders. The Div 1 rider acts like a motor bike and sets the pace for the young rider. To add extra spice, we handicap the event. This is one of the best events for our young riders to learn how to sit a wheel, gauge their effort and think about tactics.

The feature race of week 12 was the 1.25km Met Helmets / Rocky Pt Rd Cycles Wheel Race for div 4.
From the start Jack Edwards had to go flat out, which he did to open a sizeable lead. Katrina Lane made a solid effort to close the gap to Jack and take the lead by herself.
Jack Edwards preformed well in the handicap.
Behind these riders the rest of the field managed to come together with 2 laps to go. At this point Rob Parerby made the correct move from mid field going high around the bunch and flying past a tiring Katrina Lane. However the bunch lead by Matty Hynes never stopped chasing and caught Rob entering the final lap.
On the final lap there were at least 10 riders with a serious shot of winning the Stradivarius Helmet worth $279. Fatigue was playing a big part in the selection of who would be able to sprint home on the last lap. Coming into the final straight it was shaping up to be one of the closest finishes I have ever witnessed in a wheel race as wall of rider converged on line. Suddenly Manny Cachia weaved his way through the bunch to take a clear victory. The photo below was used to determine second place between Alex Duyckers, Matty Hynes and Mike Pugh.
Terry Freshwater from Rocky Pt Rd Cycles was on hand to make the presentation of the Met Stradivarius Helmet to Manny Cachia. Unfortunately Manny had to head off before the Podium Presentation later in the night however his good mate Jason was only too happy to stand in for the photo. Jason even tested the brand new helmet out in the final race of the night.
This Wednesday is the Masters only Series Apec Friday will not interrupt FNWTR with the all important fourth round of the Hillbrick series This week’s newsletter may be one day late due to work commitments Cheers Paul
