Spinach grows in the cooler months and bolts to seed in hot weather. So plant spinach in late summer, autumn and right through winter.
Sow seeds direct in rows about 30cm apart. Thin to the strongest seedlings so plants are spaced about 20cm apart. Mulch seedlings with compost and water well. Being a leaf crop, spinach responds well to organic liquid feeds.
It is a short lived plant, so keep planting for a continuous crop.
Spinach can be cooked, or eaten raw in salads.
