Zucchini (or marrow) is a warm season plant of the cucurbit family and should be grown in much the same way as other cucurbits like pumpkin.
It's easy to grow and about 6 plants will supply you and your neighbours with a huge crop during summer and early autumn.
Plant seedlings in hills in full sun, 2 seedlings to a hill. Try to water the soil, not the leaves, as zucchini is highly prone to mildew. mildew doesn't usually harm the fruits but it can decrease the length of harvest.
Zucchinis are best harvested when young. A hands length is a good size, although they can reach up to a metre in length. Large ones like this are woody and almost inedible. Keep any large fruits for next years seeds.
Keep picking the young fruit. If any of the fruits are allowed to reach a large size the harvest period will cease prematurely.
