Parsley

Parsley is a biennial herb but I usually grow it as an annual.

Plant parsley at any time of year except mid winter. For a year round supply, I plant in spring and then again in autumn.

Shallow plant seeds in a punnet of good seed raising mix or old compost, water and place the punnet out of reach of strong sunlight. Young parsley seedlings can dry out very quickly if not sheltered from the sun. You can also plant seeds direct where you want them to grow, though I prefer punnets as they give you more control over the seedlings.

Parsley likes rich damp soil as for vegetables and is happy to accept a liquid feed occasionally. Mulch around seedlings but keep the mulch a few inches from the stem.

When I plant parsley I like to plant at least a dozen seedlings. My family eats a lot of fresh parsley, either added to hot meals or finely chopped for salads. Some people like to chew on a bunch of fresh parsley. However you eat it, you should find it to be far superior to the dried stuff you buy in supermarkets. It is also rich in iron and other minerals, so it's a good healthy addition to your diet.
