Pineapple Sage

Pineapple sage

Pineapple sage is a wonderful culinary herb. It has a gentle sage flavour with a hint of fruitiness. Add it to soups and stews, or any other dish you want to experiment with. It is also very ornamental, with lovely deep green foliage and small attractive red flowers.

Grow pineapple sage in well drained, moist soil. Beware not to let it dry out in summer or you'll lose most of the leaves. Don't drown it though.

Propagate by breaking off 4 to 5 inch lengths of side shoot, with a heel attached. Remove most of the leaves and plant half the length deep, in good organic potting mix or old compost. Water and wait. I find pineapple sage cuttings will reliably produce roots.
