Winter savoury

Winter savoury

There are 2 main savouries, summer savoury, which is an annual herb, and winter savoury, which is a perennial.

I grow winter savoury because I find perennial plants more convenient to grow and maintain than annuals. The difference in flavour between the 2 is minimal anyway. Perennial plants are generally hardier than annuals and need less maintenance once established.

Plant winter savoury in moist but well drained soil in full sun. Provide plenty of moisture until well established.

Harvest leaves for soups, stews and bean dishes, and propagate by division.
