There are 2 main varieties of tarragon. French tarragon has much more of the aniseed flavour than Russian tarragon.
Plant tarragon in well drained soil in full sun and feed only with a compost mulch. It will lose flavour and vigour if over fed.
Tarragon is a hardy plant and won't flinch during drought. It dies back in winter and reappears in spring.
French tarragon does not set seed but is propagated easily by root division. This is done when the green tips appear in spring. I recently created about 20 new plants from a single 2 year old plant.
