Growing salad sprouts

If you'd like to make your salads more interesting, why not try growing salad sprouts. Salad sprouts are very easy to grow, taste great and provide extra nutrition to your diet.

Get some sprout seeds, usually alfalfa or mustard seeds. Try fenugreek for a peppery/curry flavour.

Sprinkle a small handful of the seeds into a watertight container, perhaps a glass jar or a desert bowl, and cover the seeds with water - just enough to give them a soak and to keep them damp for a couple of days. Cover the container with some damp paper toweling and put them in a dark spot, maybe a cupboard. Check every day to make sure they have enough moisture.

They should sprout within a couple of days and should be ready to eat within a couple of weeks. Just trim off the roots and add them to your salad. Hey presto.
