If you like flowers and you want to try growing some, why not have a go at what I think are the most spectacular flowers of all - sunflowers.
Sunflowers are easy to grow but watch out for snails and slugs when the plants are young and tender.
Seeds should be sown in rich soil or compost, in spring when the soil has warmed up. Seeds should be planted in clumps about half a metre apart, 3 seeds to a clump. The seeds should be planted about 5mm deep. If more than one seed germinates in each clump, remove all but the strongest one.
Keep the soil moist, and mulch well once the plants are big enough.
After about 3 months you should have beautiful flowers the size of dinner plates.
