NISHMAT COL CHAI:

JEWISH MEDITATION AND JEWISH RENEWAL

Our mission: “To explore spirituality and mysticism in a modern Jewish context”

JEWISH RENEWAL (including Jewish Meditation)

Jewish Renewal is a movement that was created in the 1960’s from Kabbalah, Chassidism, Feminism, Environmentalism, scientific discovery and Eastern spirituality. There are Jewish Renewal Rabbis, Siddurs for various occasions and a vast number of reference works.  A primary activity is Jewish Meditation.

Jewish Meditation is a profound spiritual path that is embedded in the history of Judaism. It is said to have been handed down at Sinai. The mastery of Jewish Meditation provides the possibility of finding a link with Universal Oneness. There are similarities with forms of meditation found in Buddhism, Sufism, Hinduism and Christianity. What  distinguishes Jewish Meditation from other forms of meditation is the use of Torah, the Hebrew language (which gives a deep meaning to mantras) and Jewish chanting, rituals, and prayers.

Jewish Renewal and Jewish Meditation are open to all Jews with all varieties of Jewish belief who are interested in the Jewish Renewal Philosophy. Non-Jews with an interest in Jewish Renewal are also welcome to attend. Jewish Renewal activities include Services, Meditation sessions, workshops and discussions.
